Situated in the upper Arges basin, legendary river whose name it bears, the county is bordered to the north by the Fagarasilor ridge, with the peaks of Moldoveanu (2,543 m) and Negoiu (2,535 m), and to the south is the Romanian Plain, thus, from the north to the south, there are all three forms of relief: mountains, hills and plains, as well as two hydrographic basins: Arges Basin, in the mountainous and hill area and Vedea Basin, in the hill and plain area. The county seat is Pitesti.

Poenari Fortress is one of the most impressive fortresses in Romania. For the view over the Arges Gorges, Vidraru Dam and the Fagaras Mountains it is worth to climb the 1480 steps of the building! The fortress of Negru Voda, built in the fourteenth century, is near Arefu, near the dam. The ruler Vlad Tepes resided between these walls, being a place of refuge and fortress in the path of Ottoman co-operation.
Transfagarasan or DN7C is one of the most spectacular roads in Romania and winds through the Fagaras Mountains to connect two historical regions, Muntenia and Transilvania. The highest point of the mountain road is at Balea Lac, 2,034 meters.
Vidraru Dam is the accumulation lake that was built in 1965, gathering the waters of Buda and Capra rivers to prevent floods and to produce electricity.
Curtea de Arges Monastery is one of the most visited architectural complexes in Romania. Inside the cathedral there is the fountain of craftsman Manole, the legendary builder of the foundation of Neagoe Basarab.
The Museum of Viticulture and Pomiculture - Golesti Mansion is built in the village of Stefanesti, the Golesti family mansion, which covers about 14 hectares, hides unknown stories. The mansion is the first fortified medieval secular construction in our country.
Nucsoara Valley Waterfall is less known, but no less spectacular. Spring waterfall flow is an impressive one.
The Corbii de Piatra Monastery is the oldest rock monastery in Romania, dating from the 14th century.
Iezer-Papusa Mountains - from the plateau can be seen, apart from the Piatra Craiului Mountains, the Fagaras Mountains and the Bucegi Mountains, the Iezer-Papusa mountains are surrounded by the waters of Dambovita and the Lady, and the highest point is the Red Peak with 2,469 meters. .
Lake Invartita also known as Lake Nucsoara is another unique place in Arges, because it formed on gypsum, soluble rock and calcium sulphate, being the only one of its kind in Romania, it is at an altitude of 780 meters and has a area of ​​2.2 hectares. Its waters, fueled by sulphated, calcium, and sodium springs can also be used for bathing purposes.
Planetarium Pitesti is the first digital planetarium in the country and the third in the world. This wonderful instrument, by which we can discover the celestial stars, was inaugurated in 2008 and is hosted by the Arges County Museum.
