Ranca is developing a resort, situated in Gorj County, Romania, situated at 1,600 m altitude, at the foot of the tip of the Massif Novaciului dolly in Parang Mountains, 18 km from the town on the road Novaci Transalpina (DN67C), a road which is upgraded and maintained until the state even during winter. In winter you can go only from Novaci Transalpina from being closed during the winter-Voineasa Obarsia Lotrului
Dispune de trei partii de ski toate dotate cu teleski; una pentru incepatori pozitionata pe Muntele Cornesul si dotata cu nocturna pozitionata in centrul statiunii si una pentru avansati care continua peste varf. Cea de-a treia este un babyski pozitionat la intrarea in staţiune dotat cu nocturna. In prezent se lucreaza si la cea de a 4a partie. Ranca mai dispune de un telescaun ce deserveste trei partii de ski care se afla la poalele Varfului Papusa. Sezonul schiabil incepe in luna noiembrie si se termina in luna mai.
La Ranca si in zonele din jurul statiunii curentii de aer favorizeaza zborul cu parapanta. Varful Papusa, Varful Magura, Varful Cerbul sunt doar cateva din locatiile folosite de amatorii de zbor cu parapanta. Turismul de aventura castiga din ce in ce mai mult teren in Romania.
