Săcel is one of the villages of Maramures county, located in the southeast of it, in great relief unit known as Maramureş Depression. It is the first village in the Iza Valley subunit, is located not far from 'Blue Spring' thereof, at a distance of 23 km from the city of Viseu de Sus, 56 km from the town of Sighet and 122 km from the city Baia Mare.
Săcel is the last village in the Iza Valley upstream, and hence makes the transition to Viseu Valley over step Moisei Hill (north-east) and to Transylvania (specifically Nasaud south) by Hill Ştefăniţei step that separates Mountains Rodna (East) Tiblesului Mountains (west).
Săcel is an unglazed red pottery center with very old tradition, with shapes and ornaments of Dacian origin. Picturesque settlement dominated by the Rodna Mts SE hills Frăsinişului NE, NW and Seciu Osoiu SV.
