Salt-Monteoru (briefly called Monteoru) is a village in the village of Mere, Buzau County. Salt-Monteoru is a resort located in central-western county of Buzau, Muntenia, Romania, about 20 km northwest of the city of Buzau. Place the administration of common apples and was first known among locals for healing waters of the salt springs.
The village is located in a basin drained by the river interhill Sarata, at the south-east of the Curvature Sub-Carpathians, between Istriţei Hills, hills covered by lush and sheltered from the winds. Depression is continental climate with hot summers and sunny, and without air currents are reduced precipitation and cloudiness.
In this area there is oil in the shallow basement and underground waters have high oil content, bromine, iodine and salt, so the locals use only bottled water, of fountains are not usable. These waters are, however, used for medical treatments, they flow from 15 springs located all depression.
In the late nineteenth century, the city and surrounding land were bought by the Greek Monteoru Gregory, who gave the name of the village, he successfully exploited deposits of oil, creating oil here and the only mine in Europe, after which earnings used to finance investment in a resort. The resort was the heyday before the Second World War, was destroyed by the communist regime, and confiscation of property. In the 1970s, the communist state began to make some small investments in new resort, completed after the fall of the regime and return to a market economy, other private initiatives in tourism.
The village is known for Monteoru culture, an archaeological culture dating from the Bronze Age, represented by a large settlement located near the eastern edge of the village today, Citadel Hill.
