Situated between the Fagaras Mountains, and Lotrului Cindrel, Sibiu is located in the depression Cibin, crossed the river with the same name, taken from the Latin name of the town which was Cibiniensis / Cibinium. Also, the town is bounded north and east of the plateau above the valley reaching down Tarnavelor Cibin by Gusteritei Hill.
Later in 1692, thanks to the Austrian influence, Sibiu became the capital of Transylvania at a time when the city experienced a tremendous economic and cultural development. In those years Brukenthal Palace was built.

Sibiu beginnings are lost in the mists of time. n 2007 Sibiu is the European Capital of Culture (together with Luxembourg). It is the most important cultural event in the history of the city and a large number of tourists are expected to soseaca from the country and abroad.
Known as a tourist center of reference, is distinguished by the fact that Sibiu old city, surrounded by the old fortress walls, is as a nucleus for the entire city.
Square, called the Great Ring, with a length of 142 meters and a width of 93 meters, is the center of Sibiu. Southern side is due to its unique medieval architectural monument in the area. In 2006 the square was paved with cubic stone and an old fountain located grid.
Council Tower, completed in 1588, is one of the most famous monuments of Sibiu located between Market Square and Little.
