Sulina is a town and a free port in Tulcea county, Dobrogea, at the eastern extremity of Romania, the Danube Delta, the mouth of the Sulina branch point in the Black Sea. It has a population of 4601 inhabitants. Sulina is not directly related to road network in Romania and can be reached only by water or on the Danube or Black Sea.
Sulina is the city from Romania located on the lowest average elevation of only 4 m above sea level. The city lies along the Danube, most of the habitat on the right bank.
Unlike the rest of the Danube Delta, the town is composed of sandy and salty soils, partially wet, furrowed channels. In dry areas and the specific salt dune vegetation such as red sea buckthorn (Tamarix ramosissima). The predominant wetlands reed (Phragmites genus), mace (genus Typha), peppermint frog (Mentha aquatica), water hemlock (Cicuta virosa), cornaci (Trapa natans) and less white lily (Nymphaea alba). Buildable area is characterized by the absence of large trees, with a single cluster of locust (Robinia pseudacacia), planted at the entrance to the city. Otherwise, the city can meet willow (Salix Babylon), poplar, ash (Fraxinus excelsior) and corcoduşi (Prunus cerasifera), incumbents are more rare fruit trees.
