Tulcea County is located in south-eastern Romania, in North Dobrogea, and is crossed by 45 parallel, north west and is bordered to the east of the Danube and Black Sea.
Tulcea is 30 meters high and 292 km from Bucharest.
It is situated on seven hills hills of Tulcea, on a house inhabited continuously since Gumelniţa culture period (2900-2200 BC), continuing with Aegyssus Greek settlement (eighth century BC), the port and the city dating from Roman I - II AD, the city of Tulcea appointed time of Mircea the Old. Under Ottoman rule the town decades, a reversal occurring with the opening of the Sulina channel.
The town was first attested in 1657. It was under Ottoman rule between 1420 and 1877.
During 1840-1859 the area was populated by settlers of German origin, known as the German Dobrogea. Most have left the city in 1940, being displaced by force in Nazi Germany, under the banner Heim ins Reich (Home to the Reich).
Until the 1950 reform was admnistrativă of Tulcea county (wars). After the communist regime, Romania became the residence of a department in the Dobrogea region.
After the Second World War, the city expanded and modernized. Currently the city reaches a hearth area of 115 square kilometers and a population of 93,051 inhabitants (in 2002).
Tulcea is a modern city, the port for passenger ships, as well as those carrying industrial products, especially raw materials and ocean vessels. Tulcea County is located such that it is accessible by sea and the ships on the Danube, having a great commercial advantage.
