The village of Vama is located at the eastern extremity of Oașului Country, at the foot of the Oașului and Gutâiului Mountains, rich in ores. The extensions of these peaks bear different names, but the most known by the inhabitants of the village, which also border the village, are Puturoasa and Heghişa, Dealul Biltului and Cornetului.
It is not possible to say with certainty who were the first inhabitants of the village, but the hypothesis is very real that the first inhabitants were the Romanians and then the Hungarians were colonized here together with those from Oraşu Nou and Remetea Oaş, with the aim of Hungarianization in the places where the land was better for agriculture, brought here in the XII century from Tisa and placed in Vama after "ginţi" (in ancient Rome, a gentry was a family consisting of individuals who shared the same name and claimed descent from a common ancestor. A branch of a ginte was called a stirpă. The ginta was part of the important social structure in Rome and throughout Italy during the Roman Republic).
Vama is known for its ceramic products, which perpetuate the old Dacian custom of pottery. The village was an important ceramics center, where enamel associated with new motifs, colors and processes appeared early on, under the influence of Byzantine ceramics. There is also a ceramics museum here.
