Zalau is the capital and largest city of Salaj County, Transylvania, Romania.
Located in northwestern Romania, crossing the Eastern Carpathians and Apuseni Mountains, Salaj County is known from ancient times Silvaniei country, that country forests, with an area of 3850 km2 and its neighbors to the north of Satu Mare and Maramureş west and south-western district of Bihar and south-eastern county of Cluj.
It is situated near the former Roman Empire border, namely 8 km from the Roman camp Porolissum - the most powerful stronghold to defend the role of the north-western province of Roman Dacia. In the Middle Ages represented the passage from Central Europe toward the heart of Transylvania, the famous road salt.
Benefiting from an exceptional natural environment, its position at the foot Meses tourism and a rich collection of anthropogenic origin, Zalau city is also an important tourist center. Base material is six existing accommodation units, four hotels, one motel and two camps. Total number of seats in the 708 accommodation units, of which 325 seats in the camps.
