Situated in the upper Arges basin, legendary river whose name it bears, the county is bordered to the north by the Fagarasilor ridge, with the peaks of Moldoveanu (2,543 m) and Negoiu (2,535 m), and to the south is the Romanian Plain, thus, from the north to the south, there are all three forms of relief: mountains, hills and plains, as well as two hydrographic basins: Arges Basin, in the mountainous and hill area and Vedea Basin, in the hill and plain area. The county seat is Pitesti.

Lake Invartita also known as Lake Nucsoara is another unique place in Arges, because it formed on gypsum, soluble rock and calcium sulphate, being the only one of its kind in Romania, it is at an altitude of 780 meters and has a area of ​​2.2 hectares. Its waters, fueled by sulphated, calcium, and sodium springs can also be used for bathing purposes.
Planetarium Pitesti is the first digital planetarium in the country and the third in the world. This wonderful instrument, by which we can discover the celestial stars, was inaugurated in 2008 and is hosted by the Arges County Museum.
