Aiud city is in Alba county, between Alba Iulia (30 km) and Turda (35 km), at an altitude of 270 m above sea level. The city was founded on the flow of the Aiud river in the Mures river.

It is delimited by Kakashegy to the south, Orhegy to the north, which gives it a microclimate suitable for growing fruits and vines.
The main attraction of the city is the fortress of Aiud, one of the oldest urban fortresses in Transylvania. The walls of irregular polygonal plan of 10 m high were reinforced with towers (of the fur, of the butchers, of the tailors, etc.), belonging to the craft guilds whose names are preserved.
