Zalau is the capital and largest city of Salaj County, Transylvania, Romania.

Located in northwestern Romania, crossing the Eastern Carpathians and Apuseni Mountains, Salaj County is known from ancient times Silvaniei country, that country forests, with an area of 3850 km2 and its neighbors to the north of Satu Mare and Maramureş west and south-western district of Bihar and south-eastern county of Cluj.

County Museum of History and Art Zalau (founded 1951), with hoards of culture and heritage objects belonging to the Dacian-Roman, medieval and folk, along with John Sima Art Gallery are the main objectives of the city's biggest attraction.

Cultural tourism is strictly related to the presence in the county of cultural values that can take various forms.

Worthy of interest are the folkloric festivals, celebrations and pastoral peasant, who in many cases attract thousands of spectators.
