Székelyudvarhely is a municipality in the county. The city is located 105 km south-east of Targu Mures and crossed the Târnava Great.
The first mention of the city dates from 1301 with the name Uduord. Name City indicates that the bailiff had his Szeklers headquarters here.
It is assumed that the city was a free city before the fourteenth century. In 1357 there was held the first Diet of the Szeklers. Fortress (castle) in the city was built in 1492 using materials of construction of a monastery. John Sigismund, Hungarian prince of Transylvania, took possession of the city after winning a battle against Szeklers.
